THRESHOLD
Privacy Policy
Threshold is developed and published by Apps by Romero (“we,” “us,” or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the Threshold iPhone app, visit Threshold’s related web pages, or contact support.
1. OVERVIEW
Threshold is designed to help users capture, organize, review, and export investigation evidence and related activity. Threshold does not require an account, does not include advertising, and does not use third-party advertising trackers.
The app’s core investigation data is stored locally on the user’s device.
2. INFORMATION STORED BY THE APP
Depending on the features you use, Threshold may store the following information on your device:
- Investigation Sessions and Areas
- Session titles, locations, investigator names, and notes entered by the user
- Audio recordings
- Video recordings
- Photos and motion-triggered images
- Imported media
- Evidence markers and review notes
- Synchronized magnetic timelines associated with supported audio and video captures
- Capture-time magnetic snapshots associated with supported photos and Motion Camera images
- Magnetic values, baselines, changes, activity levels, timestamps, and sensor-quality context when available
- Motion Camera metadata
- Spirit Box Lab runs, generated outputs, timestamps, calibration details, and associated trigger details
- App preferences, access status, and related settings
This information is used to provide Threshold’s capture, organization, review, export, and investigation features.
Magnetic timeline and snapshot fields are stored only when the related feature is used and a valid reading is available. Older evidence, imported media, unsupported devices, and captures made while a valid reading is unavailable may not include magnetic context.
3. DEVICE PERMISSIONS AND SENSOR ACCESS
Threshold may request access to certain iPhone features when they are needed for a selected function.
Camera
Camera access is used for Video Capture, Rapid Photo Capture, and Motion Camera.
Microphone
Microphone access is used for EVP audio recording, Video Capture with audio, and the Audio Level Meter.
Video Capture requires both Camera and Microphone access. If access is denied, Threshold may provide an in-app option to open the app’s Settings page so the user can review the missing permission.
Photos
Photos access is used when you choose existing images from the Photos app or save media through a feature that requires Photos access.
Files
Files access is used when you choose supported audio or video files for import or select a destination for an export.
Motion and Environmental Sensors
Motion and available environmental sensor data may be used by features such as Vibration Beacon, Magnetic Field Monitor, EVP Audio Recorder, Video Capture, Rapid Photo Capture, Motion Camera, and Spirit Box Lab.
On supported devices, Threshold may use magnetometer readings to display live magnetic activity, create synchronized audio or video timelines, and save capture-time magnetic snapshots with photos or Motion Camera images.
Rotating the device can briefly recalibrate magnetic sensing. During this settling period, supported interfaces may show CALIBRATING, and live readings resume after the device settles.
If a usable magnetometer is unavailable, the related capture feature can continue without magnetic context. Threshold does not create false magnetic timeline or snapshot data.
Speech
When spoken Spirit Box output is enabled, Threshold uses Apple-provided speech functionality to speak generated words.
Threshold uses these permissions and sensors only to perform the feature you choose to use. You can review or change app permissions in iPhone Settings.
4. LOCAL STORAGE
Threshold’s investigation content is stored locally within the app’s data on your device, except when you choose to import, export, save, or share content through Apple-provided system features.
Locally stored investigation content can include captured media, imported media, Session and Area information, markers, review notes, Motion Camera metadata, Spirit Box run details, synchronized magnetic timelines, and magnetic snapshots when available.
We do not operate a Threshold account service or a developer-controlled cloud database for storing your investigation Sessions or evidence.
Deleting evidence, deleting a Session, or deleting the app may permanently remove locally stored investigation content. Limited access-control information stored through Apple-provided secure device storage may remain after the app is deleted. Users are responsible for maintaining any backups or exports they wish to preserve.
5. IMPORTS, EXPORTS, AND SHARING
Threshold allows users to import media and, with applicable access, export or share investigation content.
A Session export may include Session and Area details, copied audio, video, photo, and Motion Camera files, markers, Motion Camera metadata, Spirit Box run data, synchronized audio and video magnetic timelines, and photo or Motion Camera magnetic snapshots when available.
Older evidence, imported media, unsupported devices, and captures without a valid sensor reading may omit magnetic fields. This does not prevent export or later review.
When you choose to export or share information, the selected content may be provided to the app, service, person, storage location, or sharing destination you select. The privacy practices of that destination are governed by its own terms and privacy policy.
Threshold does not automatically publish or share your investigation evidence.
6. IN-APP PURCHASES
Threshold Pro is offered as an in-app purchase processed by Apple through the App Store.
We do not receive or store your full payment-card information. Apple may provide the app with purchase and entitlement information needed to confirm whether Threshold Pro has been purchased or restored.
Apple’s handling of purchase information is governed by Apple’s own privacy policies and terms.
7. SUPPORT COMMUNICATIONS
If you contact us at appsbyromero@gmail.com, we receive the information you choose to include, such as:
- Your email address
- Your message

We use support communications to respond to requests, investigate reported problems, improve Threshold, and maintain related records.
Please do not send private investigation evidence unless it is necessary for the support request and you are comfortable sharing it.
Support email is handled through Google’s Gmail service and may be processed according to Google’s applicable privacy terms.
8. WEBSITE AND HOSTING DATA
Threshold’s public support, privacy, and user-guide pages are hosted using Firebase Hosting.
When you visit these pages, the hosting provider may process standard technical information needed to deliver and secure the site, such as an IP address, browser type, device information, requested page, and access time.
We do not use these pages for behavioral advertising or cross-app tracking.
9. ANALYTICS, ADVERTISING, AND TRACKING
Threshold does not include third-party advertising.
Threshold does not sell personal information.
Threshold does not use your investigation evidence for advertising.
Threshold does not use cross-app or cross-website tracking for advertising purposes.
If Threshold’s data practices materially change in a future version, this Privacy Policy and the App Store privacy information will be updated accordingly.
10. DATA RETENTION
Locally stored app data remains on your device until you delete the relevant item, delete the related Session, remove the app, or otherwise erase the app’s data.
Support correspondence may be retained for as long as reasonably needed to respond to the request, document the resolution, prevent abuse, or meet legitimate legal and business obligations.
11. CHILDREN’S PRIVACY
Threshold is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through a Threshold account or online service.
A parent or guardian who believes a child has sent personal information through support may contact us to request review or deletion.
12. DATA SECURITY
We use reasonable measures to protect information under our control. However, no device, email service, storage system, or method of electronic transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Users should protect their device with appropriate security settings and carefully review investigation content before exporting or sharing it.
13. YOUR CHOICES
You can:
- Decline or revoke camera, microphone, Photos, motion, or related sensor permissions in iPhone Settings
- Use Threshold features without magnetic context when a usable magnetometer is unavailable
- Delete individual evidence and investigation records through available app controls
- Delete the app to remove its locally stored app data from the device
- Choose whether to export or share content
- Contact us regarding support information you previously submitted
Revoking a permission may prevent the related Threshold feature from functioning.
14. LEGAL REQUIREMENTS
We may preserve or disclose information under our control when reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law, legal process, enforceable government requests, protect rights or safety, investigate fraud or abuse, or defend legal claims.
15. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy when Threshold’s features, data practices, legal requirements, or supporting services change.
The revised policy will be posted on the official Threshold Privacy Policy page with an updated effective date.
